A Found Journal

Korean Jornal Cover and Title

I mentioned in this Friday Five post, that I had found a beautiful, old journal at a flea market in Seoul. Today, I’m opening its pages for you. I truly feel like I stumbled upon a very special treasure. The man who sold it to me explained, in Korean, that it was a journal. He was so curious if I could read it, and happy to see someone so interested in it. I happily handed him 2,000 won for the perfect souvenir of time spent in Korea. I’ll keep forever.

It’s story began in 1981. It’s pages are brittle and have that love it or hate it musty old book smell. I love it. It’s adorned with sketches, signatures, and words I can’t quite understand. Between two middle pages it holds pressed flowers for safe keeping. I wish I knew where they were picked. Did someone give them to the author? Was she in love? One day, I’d love to have her thoughts translated. Maybe I can even figure them out myself.

I hope you enjoyed looking through it as much as I do. Have you found any amazing old treasures in your travels and explorations? What’s your favorite one? Please share!
